What is a Tech Pack?

A Tech Pack, short for "technical package" or "technical specification sheet," is a detailed document that communicates all the necessary information about a product's design and specifications to manufacturers for production. It serves as a blueprint for garment production and includes essential details such as:

  1. Design Sketches: Visual representations of the product from various angles, including front, back, and side views.

  2. Material Specifications: Information about the fabrics, trims, and other materials used in the product, including their composition, color, and suppliers.

  3. Measurements: Detailed measurements of the product, including dimensions, seam allowances, and fit specifications.

  4. Construction Details: Instructions on how the product should be assembled and constructed, including stitching techniques, finishing details, and any special instructions.

  5. Labeling and Packaging: Requirements for labels, tags, packaging materials, and placement instructions.

  6. Grading and Sizing: Specifications for different sizes of the product, if applicable, including grading rules for scaling the pattern from one size to another.

  7. Artwork and Graphics: Details of any logos, graphics, or prints, including their placement and colors.

Tech Packs are crucial for ensuring that the manufacturer understands and can accurately produce the product according to the designer's vision and quality standards. They facilitate clear communication between the designer and manufacturer, reducing errors and ensuring consistency in product manufacturing. Tech Packs are commonly used in the fashion and apparel industry but are also essential in other product manufacturing sectors where precise specifications are required.

Attachment: The attachment field in a tech pack is used to provide visual references and supplementary documents that support the product’s design and manufacturing specifications. This may include detailed sketches, photos, artwork files, and any other visual aids that clarify the product’s features, construction, and appearance. Including attachments helps ensure accurate communication and understanding between all parties involved in the product development process.
